Tanah lot temple is one of the most popular temples in Bali located at Braban Village in Tabanan Bali , about 20 kilometres ( 12 mil ) from Denpasar , the temple sits on a large offshore rock which has been shaped continuously over the years by the ocean tide.

Dang Hyang Nirartha, a 16th-century priest, is said to have created Tanah Lot. While traveling along the south coast, he admired the rock island’s beautiful setting and chose to rest there. Some fishermen saw him and gave him gifts. Nirartha stayed overnight on the small island. Later, he asked the fishermen to build a shrine on the rock because he believed it was a holy place to worship the Balinese sea gods.
